Being up to date with technology means that businesses move quickly. But getting caught up in the physical world can impede progress. Meeting in person, or even remotely connecting to the physical data room takes time and money. A virtual data room (VDR) can be an efficient method of sharing files for any deal.

VDRs aid companies in managing sensitive information and maintain security throughout the process. They can also boost productivity and collaboration by offering features such as in-app and email support, remote access and specific permissions. This facilitates the negotiation of complex transactions that require input from a range of stakeholders.

Investment banks usually use VDRs. VDR when facilitating mergers and acquisitions. Goldman Sachs used a VDR in 2017 to handle an agreement worth $45 billion with US Bancorp. CBRE, an agency for real estate services which specializes in real estate services, has integrated a VDR to its workflow to improve document storage and sharing during property transactions. The platform allowed them to better understand what information interested parties valued most.

The pharmaceutical industry is not a stranger to the necessity of secure data management, especially when it comes to developing drugs or conducting clinical trials. With VDR, VDR, Pfizer and AstraZeneca collaborated on an anti-viral drug and shared the results of their clinical trials and manufacturing processes in a secure setting. This allowed them maintain confidentiality while working across continents.

A good online vdr will also provide strong reports, which can help ensure that deals are being executed in a timely manner. For instance, VDRs can present detailed reports of how long each file has been watched and by who. This is an advantage over cloud storage services which only provide limited reports.
